Wedding Wednesday

This will probably be the last Wedding Wednesday post and I didn't even intend on having this one but I totally forgot to show what I gave all my bridesmaids as a thank you for being a part of our wedding. I took these pictures what seems like forever ago but couldn't post them until I actually gave them their presents since some of them read the blog and then life got in the way and I forgot. Anyways, enough excuses.....

I was trying to go with 2 themes for their presents: pink & gray (our wedding colors) and my favorite things or things that "represent" me. I knew right when I got engaged that I wanted to wear white running shorts & a "bride" tank top the morning of the wedding so I got the girls gray running shorts (luckily, they all work out so hopefully will get use out of them) and bridesmaid tank tops to match me. They also received light pink lululemon head bands (I always wear one when I'm teaching spinning), pink Camelbak water bottles, Victoria's Secret lip gloss (I'm obsessed!), and a Lug cosmetic bag. From what I heard, all the girls loved their gifts!

All of our presents wrapped for the rehearsal dinner

The bridesmaid presents were the light pink bags in the middle with white & gray flowers....they were also plastic & reusable which I thought was even better!

Fall Weekend in Laporte

Last Thursday, my parents, Todd, and I only worked half days so we could head out to the mountains in Pennsylvania for a long weekend. We had a 7.5 hour drive ahead of us to Laporte, Pennsylvania where my family has a cottage. My brother, Jeff, and his girlfriend, Kate, were taking the red-eye from San Francisco that night and would arrive on Friday.

Welcome to Laporte

When we go to Laporte, we typically stay at the family cottage but a few of my aunts, uncles, and my brother all went in and bought a house in Laporte, which happens to be next door to the house the rest of my aunts and uncles own, so we stayed at the "new" house this time. The big difference between the cottage and the 2 houses my relatives own is that the cottage is only used during warm weather months because there is no heat; it has always been used as a vacation home during the summer.

The main bathroom only has a bathtub and no shower...

so to shower, we had to use the creepy shower in the basement...

with a creepy toilet right across from it

We didn't get in to Laporte until late on Thursday evening so we went straight to bed. I got up on Friday morning and went for an easy 4 mile run around town and then came back and did Insanity with Todd. We got ready for the day and headed to Dushore, one of the bigger towns in the area, to get lunch and go to the grocery store. Unfortunately, it started raining while we were there so once we got back to the house, we spent the rest of the day lounging around and waiting for Jeff & Kate to arrive.

There was nothing healthy about our lunch

Since it was Jeff's 31st birthday on Friday, he wanted to go to dinner at High Knob Inn before coming back for cake & presents.

Saturday morning, Jeff & I got up to run together. He's training for a 50 mile trail race in December so we ran 12 mi together and then he added a few more on after that. We ran from Laporte to Eagles Mere and back and wow, was it hilly! Once my legs recovered from all those uphills, we all drove back over to Eagles Mere to walk around the lake, have lunch at the Sweet Shop, and look around the shops in town.

After Eagles Mere, my dad & Jeff wanted to go to Worlds End State Park to see some of the flood damage from a couple weeks ago. My uncle and cousin were here during the flooding and my cousin captured some amazing photos for his website. Despite some of the roads in the area still being washed out, I was surprised at how much cleaning up had been done.

Hanging out

After checking out the damage, we went back to the house and walked over to the cottage to take a peak inside. It's always nice to hang out at the cottage.

My aunt & uncle were in town from Philly and were staying at the other house next to the one we were staying at. We decided to grill out and sit out by the fire on Saturday night.

Before I knew it, it was already Sunday morning and time to pack up for our drive home to Columbus. We went next door to have lunch with my aunt and uncle before leaving.

Lunch on the porch

On our way out of town, we made a quick stop at Katie's Country Store. Ever since I was younger, I've always loved stopping here and thought it was going to be closed because of the flooding but luckily they had just opened back up the day before.

Can't wait to be back next year...

Weekly Recap: September 19-25

This was a huge cutback week for me as I ramp up for one more big week of marathon training. I had to work late a few nights, had book club, and went to Laporte, PA for a long weekend with my family so I didn't have much time for running as it was. In Laporte, I ran 4 mi on Friday morning and then did Insanity with Todd on my laptop. Saturday was a long run for me and since my brother was in town with us too (he's training for a 50 mi race in December), I ran 12 mi with him to the next town over from Laporte. Let me tell you, this was by far, one of the hardest runs I've ever done. I'm not used to running hills and there were some big hills we had to run up. Since Jeff is from San Francisco, these hills didn't affect him as much but I definitely had to stop and walk a few times. Despite a few walk breaks, I was very pleased with my time of averaging 8:54/mile.

Monday: REST

Tuesday: taught 1 hr Spin/TRX combo class
4 mi (7:54 pace)

Wednesday: 6 mi (8:05 pace)

Thursday: taught 1 hr Spin/TRX combo class

Friday: 4 mi (8:29 pace); Insanity Pure Cardio (40 min)

Saturday: 12 mi w/ my brother in Laporte (8:54 pace)
Walked 2.5 mi around Eagles Mere Lake

Sunday: REST

TOTAL: 26 mi

Book Club---Bossypants

One of my best girl friends, Megan, had the idea to start a book club a couple months ago. I figured since I'm now married woman, this sounds like something I should probably be doing....and it doesn't hurt that I actually enjoy reading. She sent out all the details to about 10 ladies, some of whom I had never met, and we all decided to start our first book club reading Bossypants by Tina Fey.

I actually read the book on our honeymoon and to be honest, I wasn't a huge fan of it. I think part of it was because I don't "get" Tina's sense of humor and part of it is because I don't watch a lot of SNL or 30 Rock and a large chunk of the book was dedicated to those shows & characters. There were definitely some funny parts but towards the end, I was just skimming it to get it over with. Would I recommend reading it? Probably not but several girls in book club really enjoyed it so it's worth a shot.

We met for the first time last night at Megan's house and me being the dessert lover that I am, I went to KissiCakes-n-Sweets at Tuttle Mall beforehand to bring a dozen cupcakes. I had a Living Social deal and figured I didn't need to eat all dozen by myself so I took them over to Megan's. I tried the peanut butter and chocolate cupcake with a Reese's cup on top and it was delicious!

Our first meeting was a huge success! Three of the girls I didn't know before last night and we all seemed to get along really well. I can't wait for our next book club meeting next month when we discuss Room by Emma Donoghue.
