I've Been Meaning to Tell You...

Usually by the time March rolls around, I have an idea of what my race calendar for the year is going to look like.  Typically I run one or two half marathons in spring and summer and then ramp up my training for a fall marathon.  While I have been running a decent amount the past couple months (~20-25 miles/week)....

I haven't announced any upcoming races because I am....

Todd & I are so excited to announce that we'll be welcoming Baby Rodrick at the end of September!

More baby bump pictures (or lack thereof) to come in the next few days but in the mean time, hopefully this will answer some of your questions:

How far along are you? I'm 13 weeks & 1 day.  We went to our first appointment last Wednesday and I found out I'm actually a week ahead of what I thought--kinda nice to skip a whole week!

When is your due date? September 22, 2013

Were you trying? Our plan was to start trying right after I ran the NYC Marathon in November.  As most people know, that race never actually happened because of Hurricane Sandy.  Either way, less than 3 months later, we got our 1st positive pregnancy test.  We found out on January 18, 2013 which was exactly 2 months ago.

How are you feeling? For the most part, I've been feeling pretty good.  My stomach has felt unsettled for the past month or so and I had some bad nausea for about a week or so (although I never actually got sick) until I went to my ob/gyn's website and found out I could take Unisom to help.  The good news--I haven't felt as nauesous when I take the medicine.  The bad news--Unisom is a sleeping aid so even though I take it at night, I'm dead asleep in about 3 minutes and still feel groggy in the morning.  I'm hoping to start to feel a little bit more like myself soon since I think I'm in my 2nd trimester  now at 13 weeks.  I have been a little bit more tired (partly to the Unisom) but let's be honest, I'm usually tired anyways since I wake up most mornings between 4:45-5:00 AM.  I'm still working full-time and working my 2nd job teaching four group fitness classes/week and trying to run 15-20 miles/week.  My pace has definitely slowed down which has been really hard for me to get used to.  I know I can run faster but I dont' really want to push myself too hard.

Are you finding out the gender? Yes, we wil be finding out the gender around my 20 week appointment at the beginning of May.  Todd is fine with not knowing but I'm such a planner that there's no way I wouldn't want to know.  We did decide though we weren't going to find out any earlier than my 20 week appointment and spend extra money.  We will tell our family right away but I'm hoping to have a gender reveal for our friends at my 30th birthday get together around Memorial Day weekend.

Have you gained any weight? As of yesterday, I've gained about 5 pounds.  I really haven't been eating more, especially with the nausea and lots of food aversions (no joke, I ate potato chips for dinner one night about a month ago) but I haven't been working out as much or as hard.  I was in the best shape of my life 6 months ago, was running 50 miles/week, and teaching 4 classses/week.  I'm not really showing yet and I don't think anyone would even suspect I'm pregnant just by looking at me.  I'm still wearing all my regular clothes (not using a belly band either) and am hoping I can for another month or so.

  4. Witty, I will have to follow. So excited for you guys. Get the BabyCenter and What to Expect apps for your phone - they are so much fun. Everything I've read said 1st tri isn't over until 14 weeks. So you're almost there. And don't worry, you won't show for what seems like a LONG time. But once you do you will love it. ;-) xoxo, Dobies

  5. So happy for you guys. I'm a total planner too and not finding out the gender was the bet thing ever. It didn't freak me out too bad.
