Trip to Houston for My Grandma's 90th Birthday (Part 1)

Last Thursday, Todd, the girls, and I flew to Houston for the long Labor Day weekend to surprise my Grandma for her 90th birthday.  She had no idea that almost 20 people were flying in to see her!  She knew my mom, dad, and aunt were coming into town but she didn't know she also had 6 grandkids, 4 great-grandkids (2 of whom she had never met), 4 spouses, and her brother and sister also flying in.  Including the family that lives locally in Houston, there were over 30 of us celebrating her big birthday.  We hadn't been down since I was pregnant with Cece so Cece got to meet plenty of family and the girls both had a blast hanging out with lots of cousins.  The celebration was capped off on Saturday night with a nice dinner & party at a local restaurant.

Day 1 (Thursday, August 30, 2018)
  • Flew from Columbus → Atlanta → Houston; arrived in Houston mid-afternoon
  • Drove an hour from the airport to our hotel in Katy
  • Dinner at Willy Burger
Girls were so excited to see our airplane

Todd sat by himself...

and I sat in between the girls on our first flight (they did great especially because there were individual TVs on the back of each seat!)

On the second flight, Todd & Cece sat together...

and Lucy & I were just across the aisle together (they both played on the iPads during this flight)

And of course, Cece fell asleep about 10 min before we landed

Day 2 (Friday, August 31, 2018)
  • Workout & breakfast at hotel
  • Swimming at St. Regis in downtown Houston with Meghan, William, & Jack (hotel they were staying at)
  • Lunch at Shake Shack
  • Played at the Disney Jr. play area at the Katy Mills Mall
  • Brisket dinner at my Aunt & Uncle's (which is where we all surprised my Grandma)

All 3 mornings I worked out, I pretty much had the place to myself

Beautiful pool

My brother, sister-in-law, and nephews were staying here so we joined them for some swimming

Lounging by the pool

After swimming, we went over to the Galleria for lunch at Shake Shack--my first time there and it definitely lived up to the hype! I can't wait for the one in Columbus to open in early 2019

Lucy enjoyed the cookies & creme milkshake

Cece fell asleep on the half hour drive back to our hotel and since we knew she wouldn't go back to sleep at the hotel, we went next door to the mall to let them play at the new Disney Jr. play area

Lucy loves Vampirina right now so she liked this singing area

Lucy wanted to ride this and Cece would only ride it with Todd but she clearly loved it

Part 2 will be up in a couple days which will include a trip to the Children's Museum of Houston and my Grandma's birthday party!
