And I'm Back!

I ran yesterday for the first time in 3 weeks!! After work yesterday, I headed to Schiller Park in German Village for a nice 3 mi run in 70 degree weather to see how my leg is holding up.

The good news--my leg did not hurt one bit

The bad news--it still hurt after I ran when I pressed on my hot spot

So where does this leave me? I have a little less than 3 weeks to try to get back into peak marathon shape before running 26.2 mi in Boston. I'm going to attempt a longer run this weekend since I missed 3 weeks of long runs. I haven't decided how long I will go yet as I want to see how my leg feels today & tomorrow. Since it still hurts when I press deeply onto the sore spot, it means it's not 100% healed. Ideally, I'd like to run between 16-20 mi Saturday morning but I'm sure that's not the smartest idea. It's hard to get back into really good running shape when I should be tapering right now.

The stats for yesterday's run: 3 mi in 23:14 (7:49, 7:40, 7:42)

I wasn't expecting to run this fast at all since I hadn't run in 3 weeks and I had already worked out at 5:00am and been at work for 8 hours. I don't tend to run that well in the afternoon, I do much better first thing in the morning. I'm very pleased with my run and glad that my leg feels better, but man, I was kinda tired when I was done with my 3 measly miles. I'm hoping to run 2-3x/wk until Boston so I can have a respectable time come race day. I'm thinking breaking 3:30 might be a very lofty goal at this point. My main goal now is to get to the starting line healthy and pain free.

wow you totally know how to come back with a vengeance: those are so killer fast miles! glad that there was no pain while running but major bummer that when you press on the hot spot it still hurts. i think it's smart to re-evaluate your goals for boston. i'm in the process of doing that myself.
