I wasn't planning on taking 2 rest days in a row but that's what happens when you're tired and you don't get up at when your alarm goes off before 5:00 AM. I had a great tempo run & speedwork session on Monday & Wednesday and despite my legs feeling like dead on my 20 miler on Saturday, I still managed to run 8:14 pace.
Monday: 8 mi w/ 4 mi @ tempo (7:25, 7:28, 7:33, 7:40)
Tuesday: 45 min elliptical; lifted total body
Wednesday: 6 mi speedwork (7:29 pace; 2 x 1 mi @ 6:59, 6:53 & 2 x 0.5 mi @ 3:22, 3:21)
taught 50 min spinning after work
Thursday: REST
Friday: REST
Saturday: 20 mi (8:14 pace)
Sunday: taught 20 min core & taught 50 min spinning
TOTAL: 34 mi

still a great week. those 2 rest days probably helped out in your 20 miler. i think since you're getting the quality workouts in the extra rest can't hurt -- although try telling me that ;)
