Here We Go Again...

Lucy has been keeping a little (okay, BIG!) secret for the past couple months....

She's going to be a big sister in July!

We're so excited to be expecting Baby Rodrick #2 in July and make our family complete.  While she may not fully understand what's going on, Lucy is excited to hold her "strawberry baby" (we had told her awhile back the baby was the size of a blueberry so she called it a "blueberry baby" and somewhere along the line she changed it to strawberry) and feed him/her.  She's already been practicing by holding her baby dolls and singing Rock-A-By Baby to them....so sweet!  By the way, when I asked if she wanted a brother or sister, she says brother but then when I ask if she wants the baby to be a boy or a girl, she says girl.  I guess either way she won't be disappointed!

Hopefully this will answer most of your questions & I'll have bump updates tomorrow & Wednesday! (Yes, I'm going to be annoying and still do a bump update weekly.  They're honestly one of my favorite things to look back on and now with this second pregnancy, I'm so glad I did them the first time around.)

How far along are you? I'm 13 weeks & 2 days.  We had our first appointment back on December 16 when I was about 8.5 weeks along (our first ultrasound) and our second appointment was just this past Wednesday at 12.5 weeks (heard the heartbeat for the first time).

When is your due date? July 23, 2016

First ultrasound at 8.5 weeks on December 16 (last time I was pregnant they didn't seem me for my first appointment until I was 12.5 weeks so getting to go in a month earlier was a huge relief!)

Were you trying? Right after we had Lucy, we originally talked about trying for #2 when she was about a year old. Unfortunately, I ended up having 2 back surgeries right around that time and I was advised by my family doctor and orthopedic surgeon to wait at least 6 months after the second surgery to make sure I was fully recovered and healed.  I was still really cautious and optimistic about getting pregnant because I knew if anything serious happened to my back while I was pregnant, there was no way I could have surgery...and let me tell you, I don't think I could live with the excruciating pain on top of being pregnant for weeks or months.  So, by the time those 6 months passed, that was right about spring time last year and I'm going to be honest, I wanted to be selfish and actually enjoy a summer with just Todd & Lucy before having another kid.  I didn't really get to enjoy the previous summer because I was laid up with my back and couldn't pick up or hold Lucy. Plus, Lucy is actually "easy" right now and I wasn't quite ready to throw a newborn in the mix (I'm already terrified of how early I'm going to have to get up during the week so I can work out, shower, and get two kids up and ready to take to my parents' by 7:15 AM) so we decided to start trying right around when she turned 2.  Long story short, I got off birth control in July to get my body back to normal and luckily I did because it took 2.5 months to get everything "normal" again.  We got pregnant shortly after that and we found out I was pregnant on Todd's birthday, November 15.

I didn't actually tell Todd I was taking a pregnancy test but since he was going out of town for a few days for work the day after his birthday, I knew I'd go crazy waiting until he got home to take one; I was actually shocked the pregnancy test was positive because I felt so normal

Since it was his birthday, I put the positive pregnancy test in a gift bag and told him he had an early present to open (we were doing cake & presents with my parents later that evening)

He was surprised!

How are you feeling? Surprisingly, I feel great!  I was actually convinced for a few weeks I wasn't really pregnant because I felt 100% normal and literally didn't have a single symptom.  I was pretty nervous for our first appointment and was relieved to see our little peanut on the ultrasound.  Right around 9 weeks or so, the fatigue finally hit as well as the peeing every couple hours but I'll take those two symptoms over nausea any day!

Are you finding out the gender? Yes, while we opted out of the early blood test you can now do around 12 weeks and find out the gender based on DNA, we plan on finding out in March at my 20 week ultrasound.

Have you gained any weight? I've gained about 3 pounds which I'm sure partly is due to all the yummy treats I ate between Thanksgiving & New Year's!

Congrats!! Love the look on Todd's face- that is priceless! And, if it's any consolation, I think adding a second kid is wayyyy easier than adjusting to the first one! :) So excited to hear what you are having and glad you've been feeling well!

Yay yay yay!!!! Congrats again friend!!!! Camden was due July 26th and was born July 24th, so they'll be pretty much 2 years apart! My #2 is due June 28th, so just about a month before you! So exciting - it'll be fun to read your bump updates! Congratulations!
