One of the parts of wedding planning that I've been looking forward to the most is deciding on a wedding cake because that means cake tasting! I've been reading a lot on the Knot discussion boards and asking my friends who have recently been married where they got their wedding cake and it seems like no one in Columbus really does a bad wedding cake. I looked up lots of reviews online and narrowed it down to about ten cake bakers that had the most & best reviews. From there, I went on their websites and tried to find their pricing because to be honest, that's a big deciding factor. Wedding cake is expensive & I refuse to pay $4/slice for each guest. Todd & I came up with a list of four cake bakers that we wanted to meet with and starting tonight, we'll be going to cake tastings four out of the next five days. It doesn't happen often, but I could be sick of cake by Monday night.
In terms of the flavors of the cake, Todd & I talked about having a classic white wedding cake with fruit filling and a chocolate cake with ganache filling. Since I'd like to have a 4 tier cake, we'll probably pick one more flavor.
In terms of the design of the cake, we both like the "less is more" approach. We like simple but classic designs and definitely don't want anything over the top. To bring our wedding colors into the cake, we're hoping to have pink ribbon around the base of each layer of cake and our florist is going to put together some flowers for three "hot spots" on the cake.
Here is some of our inspiration from weddings we've attended:

i can't wait to see what you end up deciding on! 4 tiers? and each one different? if i was a guest i'd want a slice from all 4 ;)
Wedding cake tasting is so fun! I like your inspirations :)
So funny I found your blog! I live outside of Columbus and am planning a wedding as well! Small world! Good luck with your wedding planning--the cakes are so beautiful! :)

Can't wait to hear what you decide on! A friend of mine works at a bakery and makes cakes on the side. Let me know if you want her number!
