A Week of Firsts & Surprises

Well, last week was definitely an interesting week!  Lucy experienced a few "firsts" and the end of the week came with an unexpected surprise.

A couple weeks ago, Lucy started rolling over from her back to her stomach at night while she was sleeping.  I don't keep the monitor on all night since her room is right next to our room and we leave our doors open so we can hear if she cries.  Since she sleeps all night, I was pleasantly surprised to find Lucy on her stomach when I woke up one morning.  She was sleeping soundly and seemed pretty content.  She doesn't roll over every night and we've yet to see her do it during the day but I was happy she was finally rolling over.  I was also getting anxious for her to start rolling over from the stomach to her back (which I think usually happens first) but she surprised Todd & I on Saturday morning when she managed to do it!  I was so excited you would've thought we just won the lottery!

Another first last week was Lucy's first time in her high chair.  We haven't started her on food yet but plan to after her 6 month appointment next week so we went ahead and bought her high chair so she could start getting used to sitting at the table in it.  I think it's safe to say that she loves it and is definitely interested in starting to eat too.

A good surprise we had last week were the couple days of beautiful, spring-like weather.  It has literally been the longest winter ever so when the temps went above 55 degrees, Lucy & I ventured out last Monday and Tuesday for an afternoon walk.

What a difference 5 months makes!

She was very interested in looking at all her surroundings and checking out everything as we walked by...definitely a big difference from a few months ago where she would just sleep (or cry!)

The other surprise last week, which was definitely unexpected, was my root canal.  I've never had any dental issues before and was caught off guard when one of my teeth started hurting when I would eat.  It also seemed really sensitive to hot & cold temperature changes.  I gave it a few days to see if it would go away and when it didn't, I headed to the dentist who told me I had a cracked tooth.  Huh?  How in the world did that happen?  Well, unfortunately, there's no answer to that.  My dentist said that if I did it while eating, I would have known immediately so his best guess is that I clench my teeth at night while sleeping (which I have been known to do in the past).  Apparently, a cracked tooth requires a root canal and a crown so last Thursday, I had my root canal and today, I'll have a crown put on.  To be honest, the root canal didn't hurt at all because they numb you and it didn't hurt once it wore off but the worst part was just hearing them drill and wonder what in the heck they are doing to your tooth.  The smell was pretty awful too!

Pre root canal

Post root canal...although it looks like I had a stroke, I just didn't have feeling back yet on the right side of my mouth

Hoping the trip to the dentist today goes well and there aren't any more bad surprises this week!

What a cutie laying on her belly! Noelle rolled from back to belly first, too. Not a lot but she is starting to get the hang of it. She also loves her high chair but we're waiting for 6 months, too. Although, when we still used the Bumbo on the table, she was getting pretty good at trying to swipe food right from our hands! And I am patiently waiting for Noelle to start sleeping through the night!! We need a sleep intervention! I'm so jealous!

She's getting so big and so cute!! Miller reached so many of his physical milestones in his crib like rolling over, sitting up, going from laying to sitting up. It was crazy but my mom said it's a safe comfortable enviroment for them so they tend to practice there first. My little guy is now a belly sleeper all the time!
Sorry about the root canal- not fun!

I can't believe Lucy is rolling over like such a champ! Henry always practices things in his crib first before he shows off to us. I'm sorry about the root canal--I have been there and it is not fun. Have a great weekend!

That's a lot of surprises for a week. But in all of these surprises, the root canal must be your least favorite thing that happened. It's really disappointing when things catch us off guard, especially for you, since you've never had a dental issues before. But the consolation in all this is that you're not in pain now. And that's a relief. Have a good day!

That dental issue was an awful surprise, Jenny. However, it’s nice to know that you consulted the dentist for an immediate treatment. How was it, by the way? I do hope you won’t have any other dental issues after the root canal, so you could devote your time to your precious daughter. Have a great day!
