Jam Packed Weekend

Since Todd was off work all week to help me & Lucy after my surgery, we started our weekend a day early on Friday when we headed to the Columbus Zoo to check out the new Heart of Africa exhibit.  I'd heard all the hype about it and my parents had already taken Lucy but we were really surprised how amazing the exhibit really was!  At times, you really did feel like you were at the African Savanna with the rolling grasslands and giraffes, ostriches, zebras, warthogs, and many other animals hanging out.  There are set times you can feed the giraffes and watch cheetah runs as well as camel rides.  We were lucky that we happen to be there when they were doing a cheetah run which was awesome.

There were several giraffes but only one that was actually up close since they weren't doing any feedings when we were there

On Saturday, we started our day at Heritage Park in Westerville for Loring's 1st birthday party, the daughter of one of my good friends.  The weather couldn't have been more perfect and Lucy had a fun time hanging out with her friend, Olive.

Dads with their daughters...love it

I absolutely loved this hanging decoration

The smash cake on the front of the table was really pretty too, almost too pretty for Loring to smash & eat!

Lucy "stole" Olive's snack cup and quickly figured out how to get the food out....I think we're in trouble because this girl loves to eat

The birthday party ended in the early afternoon so after a nap for Lucy, we ventured over to Zoombezi Bay, the water park attached to the zoo, for Lucy's first visit.  There's a baby/toddler area that we hung out in.  I'm not supposed to get in a swimming pool for another week or so because of my back so we just sat on the edge of the pool and Lucy splashed around.  It was pretty hot on Saturday afternoon so we only stayed for a short time & Lucy must've been wiped out because she took a 2 hour nap once we got home.

Once Lucy woke up from her nap, we walked to BW3 for dinner and to watch the Belmont Stakes.  I love where our house is located because it's within walking distance to restaurants on Sawmill Parkway as well as downtown Powell.  You can literally see BW3 from our driveway so it was only about a 5 minute walk to get there.

Sunday morning we headed over to Bexley so Todd could run the Jack Roth 5K.  I was actually the one registered for the race but Todd ended up using my bib to run.  While I was disappointed I couldn't run, I was excited to be able to cheer Todd on for once.  Todd's goal since we've known each other has been to break 24:00 minutes in a 5K and he finally did it on Sunday when he ran 23:52!  I was so proud of him!

The race started and finished on the track at Bexley high school

And here comes Todd back on the track with less than a quarter mile to go!

Todd's favorite part of racing is the free food afterwards and this race had plenty!  He started with a cupcake from Kittie's Cakes (which I ended up eating)

and then had some sushi from Fusian

and finished with a hot dog

After the race, we went home for about an hour or so before leaving again to join my parents at our church's picnic.  We ate and hung out for about an hour before leaving to run some errands.

Highlight of the picnic were funnel cakes

We were hoping to hang out outside later in the afternoon but it started raining and it really cooled off so after the church picnic, we just hung out at home the rest of the day.
