Lucy turned one over 2 weeks ago already on September 29 and we had her birthday party the following weekend on October 4. I knew for awhile we were going to do an "I Love Lucy" themed party...or rather a "We Love Lucy" themed party. It was pretty much a no brainer and I thought it a cute, unique theme. We invited quite a few people and were so excited to have almost 40 people show up to help us celebrate our favorite little girl. We had both sets of grandparents there and both of Lucy's aunts & uncles as well as her cousins and lot of our friends and their younger kids. In fact, I think we had about 10 kids, the majority of which were under 18 months.
The party was a huge success and despite Lucy not digging into her smash cake like we were hoping she would, we had a great time and I'm so glad we ended up having a big party for her 1st birthday.
**Warning, there are A LOT of pictures in this post and I actually narrowed it down quite a bit!*
The dessert table....aka Lucy's Chocolate Factory (the white table runner was really supposed to be a conveyor belt like in the famous chocolate factory episode of "I Love Lucy")
Chocolates from Anthony Thomas and miniature candy bars wrapped in "I Love Lucy" wrappers
The huge cake...trust me, we had plenty of leftovers
Lucy's smash cake and cookie tray
Snack & drink area....cheese & crackers, applesauce pouches for the kids, and fall munch mix
Main dishes we made were Frito chili, mac & cheese, and corn dogs (which went on the empty white platter but they were in the deep fryer cooking) and we also had corn bread muffins, fruit salad, and a veggie tray
"I Love Lucy" coke bottles and of course, I can't ever throw a party without matching paper straws!
"I Love Lucy" bottled water
Lucy's highchair for the party...I was pretty excited about the tutu I made
Her party bib
Chalkboard poster that we hung on the basement door....thanks to my close friend, Lynn, who designed this and our party invites
52 weeks of Lucy! Yes, I actually printed out each weekly photo I had taken of her and hung them all on the wall
I put a few of Lucy's 1 year photos in the frames on the mantle and hung her monthly photos across
Todd & I with the birthday girl
Everyone hanging out and eating
More people hanging around the kitchen
Singing happy birthday to Lucy
She was loving this part if you couldn't tell by the huge grin
She wasn't sure what to think when she stuck her fingers in the cake
and she didn't seem to happy about it
Attempting another try at eating cake
and still trying to figure out what the heck is on her hands
I think she liked the cake part....
but not the dirty hands part
Family pic
She was much happier when we gave her a spoon to use
Finally, a smile!
Opening presents while everyone enjoys their cake & ice cream
Ripping open the presents
Her favorite present...batteries!
"Reading" the card
Reading her new book (and sitting on another one)
Pushing her pink jogging stroller for her new baby doll
Loving the new table & chairs from MaMa and PaPa
Once everyone left the party around 2:30, Lucy helped us clean up some of the leftover bottled water
She spent a good bit of time moving all of the bottles from one side of the rug to the other...
and trying to stack them up
Like I said, I'm really glad we had a big party for her this year but I'm thinking we'll keep it more low key in the next few years!
