Day Trip to Pittsburgh

Saturday was a busy day for us as we made a day trip to Pittsburgh to visit my aunt and go to the Pittsburgh Zoo.  It's a 3.5 hours drive and we were making good time and decided to make a quick stop at Cabela's in West Virginia to stretch our legs and let Lucy run around.  Todd had been to Cabela's before but it was my first time as well as Lucy's and she was excited to see all the animals on display.

Lucy is so surprised about all the animals

After we left Cabela's, we didn't have much longer until we arrived in Pittsburgh and met up with my parents and aunt for lunch; however, this all changed when we hit a detour just outside of Pittsburgh and were stuck in traffic for over 2 hours!  It was crazy how bad traffic was but luckily Lucy was perfectly content playing on the iPad and eating snacks for lunch (since it was way past lunch time at this point).  We skipped going to lunch and just met my family at the Pittsburgh Zoo when we finally arrived around 2:30 PM.  The rest of our day was fantastic though and we stayed at the zoo until it closed at 6:00 PM.  Our initial plan was to head back home right after the zoo but since we didn't get to spend as much time with my aunt as we would've liked, we ended up staying longer and going to dinner at Atria's.  We got stuck in a little bit of the Pirates traffic (the baseball game ended right as we were leaving town) on our way out of town and didn't get home until after midnight. I'd love to go back to Pittsburgh again to take Lucy to the children's museum and ride the incline.

The zoo is on a hill so you actually had to ride an escalator or elevator to get to the zoo entrance; this was our picture once we made it to the entrance

Once we finally ate some food at the zoo, Lucy was exhausted and passed out in her stroller; this has literally only happened one other time and it was when we flew out to San Francisco and she fell asleep in the stroller right after we got off the plane

One of my favorite exhibits was their new Islands exhibit; these tortoises were very active and "running" around

Lucy slept for about an hour and woke up just in time to see the polar bears

She looked a little scared but as soon as she made it across, she was laughing and smiling

Ended our day at the zoo on the playground

Let's hope she poses and smiles this well for her 2 year photos next month!
