First Official Summer Weekend

The official start of summer was last Thursday but I feel like we've been in the full swing of summer since Memorial Day--Lucy has been done with school for a month already and it's been a pretty hot June.  I had to go into work on Friday for a couple hours but was able to get off in time to see Lucy's performance for her Island Princess dance camp she went to all last week.  It was super cute and I was pretty impressed the girls were able to learn the dance in just a few days.  Todd & I had talked about going to the Powell Festival that evening but it was supposed to rain so instead we did a trial run of Cece's birthday cake for next month.  Of course, it never ended up raining but I think the girls enjoyed "helping" make and ice the cake.

They danced to songs from Moana

So cute!

The girls enjoyed a piece of cake for their snack on Friday afternoon

and then "raced" around the backyard

I made the cakes and icing and Todd was in charge of decorating them (I love Cece in the background crying and pointing at the cake)

We let them have some of the leftover icing....Cece wasted no time digging in

Again, rain was in the forecast on Saturday and it wasn't supposed to be quite as warm so we decided to head to COSI for some indoor fun.  We didn't realize the Big Machines event was still going on so we let Lucy pick one truck to get on.  Since it was Saturday, the lines were long and it looked like it was going to start raining any second.  As soon as we headed inside, it started to rain so we made the right decision.  We spent most of our time playing in Kids' Space and finished at the Ocean exhibit.  On the way home, we swung by the new Hilliard library which was gorgeous!  It's 2 stories and is huge--very bright and open.  The best part is that it's only about a half mile from where I work.

Luckily, the weather cleared up later in the day as we ended to a friends' house for a joint birthday party for their kids/get together to enjoy their new patio (which was amazing!).  Lucy spent the majority of the time playing with the other kids on the swing set and on one of those bouncy balls with a handle (note to self---this would be a great birthday present).  Cece spent the majority of the time hiding from the giant dogs and "flirting" with Nathan.  Such a fun night hanging out with friends and letting our kids play.

Sunday was a perfect summer day so we took advantage of the sun being out and spent a few hours at Zoombezi Bay.  The girls were wiped out after that so we took it easy at home the rest of the day.
