We are finally getting a break in the weather and kids were back in school yesterday after being off last Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. It was extremely cold last Wednesday and Thursday when the windchill was at -25 degrees, we ended up getting about 5 inches of snow overnight on Thursday into Friday (when only about 2-3 were expected) so the roads were terrible, and then it all melted when it hit almost 60 degrees on Sunday. So we basically had an 85 degree difference in the temperature in a matter of days.
I had fun plans for Friday but then once the snow came and the roads were bad, we were under a Level 2 Snow Emergency and our plans were cancelled since a lot of businesses were closed for the day. The girls & I literally stayed inside ALL DAY LONG and it just confirmed my belief that we need to get out of the house at least once a day. We were all going a little stir crazy by the time Todd got home from work at 6:30 PM.
Didn't quite realize how much snow we got and how bad the roads were until I was already on my way to class so I still made it to SOS early on Friday morning
Since we were at home all of Friday, we did a little bit of everything including playing with dolls, reading, doing search & find sticker books (also, please note that Cece continues to wear this Elsa dress non-stop and is obsessed with it) ....
getting manicures & pedicures...
having an indoor picnic lunch....
and working on valentines for school
Once the girls were in bed on Friday, Todd ran out and we finally had Swenson's for the first time since they opened in Columbus (we've had it in Akron a few times before but it had been years ago)
We made sure to get out of the house early on Saturday morning and spent a few hours at COSI. We checked out their new traveling exhibit about crocodiles as well as seeing the dinosaurs (Todd's request) and of course going to Progress (Lucy's request). Lucy had her Teddy Bear Tea Party later on Saturday afternoon for girl scouts and then once we were home, we went to Panera for dinner followed by cookies at Mrs. Turbo's Cookies (a local bakery that recently opened a new location right by us).
Took a Saturday AM class at Studio Torch
Dinosaur exhibit at COSI
The girls touching a fossil
Lucy waving to the tiny crocodile climbing out of the water
Checking out all the crocs
Besides the diner, their favorite spot in Progress is the newsroom
Cece "riding" a bike
Dressed up with her bear for the Teddy Bear Tea Party
She was excited to get the party started
The event was only 90 min and since it was 25 min from our house, it didn't make sense to drive home and back so I ran an errand and then sat in the parking lot reading my book; Lucy had a great time though--it sounded like a dream come true for kindergartners and first graders...they had a tea party which consisted of lemonade or punch, cupcakes, goldfish crackers, and pretzels (and learning some manners) as well as doing a craft, singing songs, taking pictures at a "photo booth," and picking out some candy to take home from the candy buffet
The girls each picked out a cookie at Mrs. Turbo's Cookies and wanted to eat at the cookie bar
Todd hadn't done much studying or work for school yet over the weekend so on Sunday I took the girls to the grocery store and YMCA to give him a couple hours of quiet time in the morning. We had friends coming over later in the evening for the Super Bowl so I spent some time in the afternoon getting food ready. I made stromboli, a sandwich ring, and soft M&M chocolate chip cookies as well as having chips & dip on hand.
Playing with dolls together (again, Cece is wearing the Elsa dress)
Cece helping Todd make play-doh for preschool (we had to sign up at the beginning of the school year to make play-doh and February was our month)
Lucy reading to Cece before her nap
All the kids chowing down before the Super Bowl started
Always love hanging out with Jay & Sara....and it's amazing how far we've come in the last 10+ years (every time we get together we always have to reminisce about our wine trip to the Finger Lakes back in 2008...which seems like a lifetime ago!)
